This Week's Program

Our speaker this week was Kourtney Neal, Executive Director of The Wade Center, who talked about the work that Wade does assisting school-aged youth spiritually, physically, emotionally, and intellectually.

The broad goal of the Center is to teach the children to give back to their community through service activities, and to help them learn to be a better generation than her generation. She said that the Center works to help eliminate problems affecting young people through nurturing activities in an after school program during the school year, and a 27-day summer program.

The Center is able to assist 50 children with homework, library activities, recreation and feeding them dinner in the after school program, and similar things during the summer program that provides breakfast and lunch, field trips plus.

Wade has a hefty budget need of more than $25,000 each month, some of which is paid for by the state in reimbursements for food provided to the children. Other funding comes donations by individuals who want to support the Centerís work and through fundraising activities. Mission teams often volunteer to visit the Center for several days to help out, and Kourtney said that the Center is always looking for local volunteers.

Following her presentation, Club President Peter Romano presented her a check from the Club to help support the Centerís activities.
